ABOUT
HELEN GARCIA-ALTON (she/her/hers)
My approach to theatrical collaboration has been shaped by the passion my parents instilled in me for world travel. This has led me to thirteen countries. It has also given me the opportunity to meet people with different points of view, who have different lenses of the world they look through, and different languages they speak. Some of the best experiences for me have been when I am figuring out how to buy cheese in another language.
My favorite part about designing is the conversations the creative team has about the world of the play. These discussions are equivalent to the ones I have in my travels. Together, we learn how to communicate as a team, using our various languages, be it color, texture, gesture; we take these elements and develop the world of the play. When I am finally in tech bringing up lights and building the first glimpse into the world, that is when I am the happiest.
